Palliative care helps people live as well as possible with a life-limiting illness. It focuses on managing symptoms and providing physical, emotional, practical and spiritual support, and can be provided from diagnosis onwards. It can be provided for months or even years alongside other treatments.

End of life care is the support people receive when they are thought to be in the last year of life, particularly in their final months, weeks and days. It focuses on comfort, dignity, symptom management, and emotional and spiritual support.
