The In-patient Unit (IPU) provides specialist palliative and end of life care in a peaceful and welcoming environment at the hospice.
We care for people from across Hastings and Rother. From Camber in the east to Ticehurst in the north, Little Common and Cooden in the west, and everywhere in between.
People come to the In-patient Unit for different reasons, whether that’s end of life care, or short stays for symptom management or respite care before returning home.

No. People come to the In-patient Unit for different reasons, including assessment of complex palliative care needs, symptom management, respite care and end of life care.
Yes. We know how important it is for people to stay connected to those closest to them. Family and friends are welcome to visit during a stay. We can also welcome much-loved pets following discussion and assessment with the care team.
There’s no set length of stay. Some people stay with us for a shorter period for symptom management, assessment or respite care before returning home, while others stay for longer. Care is always tailored to individual needs.
Yes. We encourage people to bring personal items that help them feel comfortable, such as photographs, toiletries, books, blankets or other belongings that are important to them.
